Personalized Treatment & Adaptations

What is Occupational Therapy (OT)?

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a client-centered healthcare profession focused on helping you solve, prevent, or minimize difficulties that interfere with your ability to perform meaningful daily activities.

When an illness, injury, or chronic condition impacts your physical or cognitive functional capacity, an Occupational Therapist provides the specialized strategies, adaptations, and rehabilitation needed to help you regain your independence.

Core Areas of Daily Functional Recovery

Our Occupational Therapy programs focus on three primary pillars of daily living:

  • Self-Care & Independence at Home: Mastering essential daily tasks such as dressing, bathing, grooming, and managing household responsibilities safely.

  • Productivity & Return-to-Work: Assessing workplace ergonomics, improving cognitive and physical tolerance, and developing structured return-to-work plans following an injury.

  • Leisure & Community Integration: Re-engaging in hobbies, sports, social activities, and navigating your community with confidence and minimal pain.

How Occupational Therapy Can Help You

Occupational Therapy (OT) provides personalized, evidence-based interventions to maximize your functional abilities and independence after an ICBC accident, WorkSafeBC injury, or chronic health change.

  • Restoring Daily Independence (ADLs): We help you regain the physical and cognitive capacity to safely manage essential self-care (dressing, bathing) and home management (cooking, cleaning).

  • Adaptive Equipment & Mobility Aids: Your OT will assess, recommend, and train you on specialized tools, mobility aids (canes, wheelchairs), and ergonomic workplace or home modifications to reduce physical strain.

  • Cognitive & Mental Health Support: We teach practical coping mechanisms for stress and chronic pain, alongside cognitive pacing strategies to manage brain fog or fatigue from concussions and burnout.

What to Expect During Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapists (OTs) provide personalized, comprehensive care to help you overcome physical or cognitive challenges after an injury, accident (ICBC/WorkSafeBC), or illness.

1. Comprehensive Functional Assessment

Your journey begins with a thorough evaluation of your medical history and daily challenges. Your OT will assess exactly how your condition impacts your ability to perform everyday tasks like self-care, household chores, or job duties.

2. Personalized Treatment & Adaptations

We design a custom plan tailored to your lifestyle and recovery goals. Sessions focus on preventative or corrective actions, which may include learning energy-pacing techniques, performing functional exercises, or using adaptive equipment and mobility aids.

3. Integrated Multidisciplinary Care

To accelerate your recovery and safely return you to a productive routine, your OT seamlessly collaborates with our wider healthcare team to coordinate complementary therapies and specialized programs:

  • Rehabilitation & Pain Relief: Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, Registered Massage Therapy (RMT), and Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS).

  • Mental Wellness: Clinical Psychology and counseling.

  • Targeted Programs: Evidence-based Fall Prevention and structured Return-to-Work programs.

Occupational Therapy Benefits can include:

  • Improved independence in activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, and eating.
